High-Throughput Virus Screening in Crosses of South American and African Cassava Germplasm Reveals Broad-Spectrum Resistance against Viruses Causing Cassava Brown Streak Disease and Cassava Mosaic Virus Disease

چکیده
Screening cassava lines for resistance against viruses causing brown streak disease (CBSD) is cumbersome because of the unpredictable and erratic virus infections in slow plant infection processes that are frequently not associated with distinct leaf symptoms reliance on assessment root necrosis as an indicator resistance/tolerance. The selection resistant candidates thus extends over several growing cycles still uncertainties about stage infection. To reduce time crosses field screening, we have developed a fast-forward screening workflow to assess seedlings from streak- mosaic virus-resistant parents. After passing through intensive precise routine, carried were identified. Taking results 195 18 crossing families together, it became evident CBSD dominant trait. protocol can be readily adopted. It shifts evaluation nursery replaces erroneous lengthy process method precision speed.

Cassava (Manihot esculenta) is a major food staple in sub-Saharan Africa, which is severely affected by cassava brown streak disease (CBSD). The aim of this study was to identify resistance for CBSD as well as to understand the mechanism of putative resistance for providing effective control for the disease. Three cassava varieties; Kaleso, Kiroba and Albert were inoculated with cassava brown s...

Cassava brown streak disease (CBSD) has occurred in the Indian Ocean coastal lowlands and some areas of Malawi in East Africa for decades, and makes the storage roots of cassava unsuitable for consumption. CBSD is associated with Cassava brown streak virus (CBSV) and the recently described Ugandan cassava brown streak virus (UCBSV) [picorna-like (+)ssRNA viruses; genus Ipomovirus; family Potyvi...

Geminate structures of African cassava mosaic virus.
Two types of geminate structures were purified from African cassava mosaic geminivirus (ACMV)-infected Nicotiana benthamiana plants and analyzed by electron cryomicroscopy and image reconstruction. After cesium sulfate density gradient centrifugation, they were separated into lighter top (T) and heavier bottom (B) components. T particles comigrated with host proteins, whereas B particles were c...
